Rover 25 fuel pump needs to prime twice to start

How do you prime the fuel pump ??

Diesel yeah?
If so it's got a leak in the fuel intake system,
first lookie would be at the fuel filter bowl seals.

Thought they were all petrol .

It's petrol, and I prime it by turning the key to II and let it prime for the 2 seconds that it takes, if I then try to start it will turn over but never start, I then have to turn the key to 0 and wait 30 seconds for the fuel relay that's under the steering wheel to click off before I can prime it again and it always then just bursts into life....

Thought the fuel pump relay was in the engine fuse box .

Ok, well something clicks under the steering wheel after 30 seconds and if I don't let it happen the fuel pump won't prime again, maybe it's not the relay but it does allow the pump to reprime...

Any ideas why this happens?

Check all earths , replace fuel pump relay .

A fuel pressure test would help,
the pressure is meant to hold for a good while after engine off.
many systems have a non return valve in the circuit to hold pressure.

Replace fuel filter if not been changed for a while .

I've done a basic service on it last weekend, changed oil, fuel & air filtres, changed oil, spark plugs, ht leads and coolant too...

Scan it .
