Rover 25 ignitiopn light stays on

The ignition light stays on. I tested the battery with multi meter and it registers 12.4volts.With engine running it only registers 11.1 volts. Could the fault be anything but the alternator.?

The small diameter wire at the alternator?
ground it to the alternator body and the light "should" go out.
this tests the lamp circuit.
If it does go out good chance the alternator is shot.
