Rover 200 drive belt pulley

Car: Rover 200
Variant: 2.0 TDi
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Leaks & Noises
was driving along yesterday and everything was fine... then all of a sudden there was a loud vibrating noise which I first thought was coming from the front drivers side road wheel... then I heard something metal hit the road as if something had fallen off... so i pulled over and had a look at the wheel.. everything was fine but noticed sparks coming from under the bonnet...when I had a look under the bonnet one of the pulleys which the drive belt sits on is actually hitting the side of the engine... it's as if something has slipped or moved causing the pulley to jam against the side of the engine causing the sparks etc... anyway not knowing a lot about cars not sure if it is fixable or even worth fixing as it's such an old car... would be grateful for any advice... thank you

do you know which pulley it is that is at fault, are the bolts tight, you need to take the drive belt off and check for play in the pulley,it could be that a bearing has exploded.have you had any work done recently that is related to the drive belt?

Sounds like it may be the timing belt tensioner .Can't remember when they changed , manual and auto tensioners on that engine . Could also be water pump knacked . What ever it is , got to get it checked out asap as could end up serious repair if you keep on driving car .If pump or tensioner , not too bad .
