Rover 200 non runner possable low compression

looked at a rover 200 the other day engine turns over belt is ok fuel is getting though starter is turning engine turns no oil in water or water in oil not alot of compression coming from exhaust car does not sound like it trying and to me not to have any compression rotar arm and leads ok spark plug broke gettin it out? dont no alot about these engines i know heads like to go but signs look good can anyone help as i am thinking about doing a new gasket cant see cracks or any thing its got me puzzled really roatr arm little black in centre pistons are moving and everything is going as it should valves etc are straight and true oil flowing normal and water is what could this be any help before i strip it completely just to find its the rotar arm or sumat first rover i done this on i dont no if you can feel compression at exhaust just sounds like bottom end doing all the work when turning but pistons are moving might be me not my car do i check for a spark no cheese anywhere etc

Depends where gasket goes whether you get water / oil mixing or not . Have you done a compression test ? Gasket could be blown between two cyls .

not yet all piston are dry whats the best thing to do you recon does it sound like head to yourself i have stripped off everything to get to the head off do i just take head off

If you have nearly stripped car , take head of and see if gasket blown .As suggested earlier , could be blown between two cyls .

ok thankyou i will do a compression test as cam etc still on and that will give me an idea before going any more if compression is low which i think as car wont run i will strip and replace gasket and possable head as got few spares ones cars got 97k had head done at 95k think car was losing water but not mixing etc not my car lol thankyou for all the help
