Rover 200 water damage

Car: Rover 200
Variant: 214si
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
my son hit a deep pool of water and it stopped the car, water splashed into the engine bay and killed the engine, when we got it home it failed to start, the starter motor will work on the bench however not while on the car.
there was some water come out of the engine relay module, and a relay switch close to the battery, if these are dried out should it work, secondly could the ecu be damaged or would it also dry out ??

could be just wet as you say but dont think it will be a cheap easy fix could need a few things but do try drying as much as you can and use wd40 on all electrical connections and anything electrical to this will help displace the moisture but see what happens

thanks, thomas, after further investigation and removing the head it seems it blew a valve and obliterated #1 piston, all that is left is the con rod.
now i need to get a replacement engine, so how do i find out which engine is fitted, ie "k" series or "L" series, and if i fit the same engine do i run into problems with the ecu ????

replaced the engine in the rover 200, however , now when i put the breaks on , the dials go crazy, rev counter drops, without the engine dying, indicaters stop working, temp guage hits high spot, when i turn on the lights the engine cuts out,

any ideas ???
