Renault Scenic air con / heater fan stuck on full

Car: Renault Scenic
Variant: 1.6 petrol privilege plus
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The car has climate control with electronic push button controls. Fan is jammed on full no matter what the LCD display says. Even if you turn it off. (there are 8 settings for the fan on the display)
I did an internet search and was directed to buy a thermal fuse from Maplins (79p)I removed the dash and everything but my components were different to the guide I was trying to follow.I think this is because of the model I have.
Its not too hard to get to everything now I know how to, so I'm reluctant to pay someone to do a job I can do myself.
But the component I got to resembled a heat sink with printed circuit above which was bolted so it sat with the sink fins inside the air box.
Could this printed circuit have failed and if so would this leave the fan on full even when turned off. Also are they expensive.
Grateful for any help.

it does sound like a resistor fault so replace the part you described

This might help you ,

04 1.9dci Heater blower
hi i have a renault grand scenic 1.9 diesel. I am having heater problems stage 1+2+3 was not working but 4 ok. Last week had smell of burning so i switched heater off.Fault has now gone away and all stages are now working. Have been told by someone who works at local renault agent that problem is the resistor pack.He told me renault know of the problem and new resistor packs have now been modified. He also told me he has fitted several but renault will not admit any liability if the car is out of warranty.

And

It's usually caused by the electrical connector on the resistor pack overheating and melting. Apparently the live feed connector is overloaded.

Renault have produced a replacement loom section and updated resistor pack for this, the live feed is shared across 2 connections rather than one.

I also have problems with the heater on my 2005 Scenic. I have no doubt this is to do with the all too common resistor fault which is not limited to the Scenic but other models as well.

Just a thought.....

I recently had my Scenic recalled by Renault for a potential problem with the electronic hand/parking brake.

Renault said there have or may be an instance the parking brake will activate whilst the car is in motion. Dangerous hence the recall.

The resistor fault is a known problem and on many forums it mentions burnt wiring looms and the risk of fire. Renault have now bought out a new section of loom to alleviate this problem. This in itself would suggest Renault have acknowledged this problem and it is potentially dangerous, otherwise, why go to the expense of re-designing the component?

Imagine the car catching fire whilst in motion or the driver being overcome by fumes from smouldering plastic.

Dangerous? I think so.

Don't you thing this is worthy of a recall? I do.

Your car is 2002 so it must be a mk 1.
The video featuring the 79p fuse is for the mk 2 scenic which is different.
I could advise you on the mk 2 but not the mk 1.
At least you can look in the right direction now!

Would think the car has been repaired by now as post was 2011 .
