Renault Scenic aircon not working - don't think it needa a regas

Model Year: 2006
I have a 2006 scenic bought just under 6 months ago. the aircon has probably never worked but certainly doesn't now. The aircon light comes on when I press the button but there is no change in temperature and I don't hear any noise. I have taken it to Kwik Fit for a regas and they said it didn't help and that probably a pump (to be fair they didn't charge me!). How can I test to see what is wrong and what is the best (cheapest) way to get it fixed?

I see quite a few of these that have been regassed elsewhere but not working (once they have figured out how to regas it through a high side charge port on the low pressure line )
Most common fault is low pressure logged in injection ecu, scan & clear fault and the a/c fires up again.
Second fault is the pressure switch itself failing due to its incredibly stupid location exposing it to all the elements that nature can throw at it, pain in the bum that the bumper needs to be removed to replace it and third most common fault is condensor failure due to plastic shroud rubbing through the vanes.
Can't say i've ever had to send one to a dealer for a software update, though i know that this is another issue with them
