Renault Scenic lumpy running

Car: Renault Scenic
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
A friend's Megane Scenic petrol has been very lumpy with a slow (250rpm) tickover and using a lot of fuel. The exhaust pollution warning light was coming on sometimes and flashing. It is'02 with 92000 miles and being used for a stop/start parcel delivery round. Disconnected the coil packs in turn and each one increased the engine shake and it cut out. Put some injector cleaner in and ran about 40 miles at 50mph. Engine ran smoother at tickover (now 700 rpm)but lumpy under even very mild load. Warning light now on more or less continuously. Any ideas? I think it needs to go on a diagnostic.

Ideally it needs a code read, but it is more than likely a coil thats at fault or possibly a plug as well

most probably a coil gone try unplugging the injectors one at a time to see which cylinder doesnt make any difference as the coil primarys are wired in series so unplugging one coil will knock 2 out.but this may log other fault codes that will need erasing
