Renault Laguna intermittant stalling

Car: Renault Laguna
Variant: 1.6 16v Manual
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My Laguna keeps suddenly cutting out/stalling,which is a big concern,as steering locks & brakes are very hard to stop car.Itvwas in a garage for ; days getting intensive engine management checks with fancy computer stuff.& all is fine now.But the stalling was added to lust of garage checks & they say it has been road tested a few times & no stalling occured.I put this down to a EMC problem & was happy to hear this news. But when returned to me(at great discounted prices from an MOT & Service garage owner, who worked in it himself). But I took it 1.5 miles for petrol,no problems.Sane trip back no problems, until last 50 yard turn into where I live,& on turning it cut out.I nearly ended up on pavement.Could have been worse!! But steering locked & servo brakes were floored to stop it.On roads it drives great. It seems to be turning corners that stalling occurs. Can anyone help with a diagnosis?

Hi, I had 10 days without my Laguna stalling on me.Only a couple of typical stalls,as I recently changed a 97 Nissan for this Laguna after 5 years,& although size isn't much bigger really to primera,it's like the Tardis inside.Lots of room & new brakes & clutch was taking a while to get used to.(repairer says give it a few days to get used to change from the primera),But after 10 days.it was stalling again, but only on take off from clutch release or,a good few times, reversing to park..I'm not stalling it myself now.I'm pretty well used to it's new brakes & clutch by now.& also drops revs when pulling away at junctions,& my idle speed may also be wrong. When idling at lights etc,my rpm counter moves from 750/800rpm, to 600 & 550rpm.I always assumed idle speed for a 1600cc is around 1100 rpm.Can anyone tell me what it should be idling at? As I feel the stalling is due to sudden drop in idle speed. Also, after all compter diagnosis & rectifying,it was great,no warning lights for 12 days? I went to a store 2 mile away,& on return,SERV light remained on all way home.I turned it off & Started it again & it was off.& next day,no SERV light showed. My petrol guage is banging off the end at over full,so I thought petrol.& filled up.Still no SERV back on.Can someone tell me if low petrol would temporary activate SERV warning light? Before the diagnostics solving,I was told by reliable garage owner that my ABS light was a wiring problem, that caused SERV light to show.Bit this time no other warningights showed.Just SERV.This & stalling & correct idle speed is my question for advice on.Thanks.

I too have had simillar problems with my diesel laguna i had it hooked up to diagnostic machine where all previous codes were deleted then it rechecked onlt active fault was start start button which weas replaced still same problem, my mechanic when servicing my car which i got in march this year noticed the throttle butterfly air valve was abit gummed up so he cleaned it and also noticed it was a bit stiff so he freed it but the problem is still there you can go days without it hasppening then sometimes it will hasppen several times where you have to restart the car i am still trying to find out what is going on with my car i have even had the inside of my engine cleaned using a terra clean machine as featured on wheeler dealers terra cleaned is from usa and new to uk its good as removes carbon deposits etc from inside engine often terra clean can fix alot of problems like excess smoking bad starting but doesnt fix stalling problems will keep you informed if i get my problem fixed

I have had experience of the 'stalling' problem, especially when approaching junctions (braking and changing down). In my case it was the keycard at fault. The keycard reader needs to be able to read the card and the ecu code. A flat battery in the key could cause a loss in signal between the key and ECU which can cause the engine to stall. Also in my case it was a faulty microchip in the keycard that was causing the stalling, which was only found by the key not working at all one morning. I had the key serviced and the chip replaced by a specialist company and car works fine ever since and hasn't stalled since. Regarding the Laguna, the car being unable to read the kaycard seems to be a very common fault, and for £15 it may be worth getting the key checked.
