Renault Laguna rattle from engine

Car: Renault Laguna
Variant: 1.9dci
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When I'm driving and slow down so the car engine is just reaching idling there is a knocking/rattle from what sounds like the front of the engine. The noise stops almost straight away. The car does not rattle when driving and in every other way seems fine.

can i just ask if its common for the laguna 1.9 dci 120 bhp cars to have a sort of rattle\vibration between 1200 rpm and 1800 rpm coming from the dashboard area. ?

it sounds like something in the dash area is vibrating but only at those rpm.

at idle its perfect.

or is something loose somewhere

There is a common rattle/noise that comes from the Airbox under the bonnet.. It is where the air inlet pipe goes into the airbox housing. This can sound like the noise is coming from the dashboard..

We usually screw a couple of self tapping screws into the flange and the noise disappears..

webcode, your a star, I myself thought it was coming from the airbox and even removed the top part of the airbox, removed the filter and rehoused everything making sure everything was tight. but didnt notice the inlet side

anyway, just been outside and removed the battery cover and I see exactly what you mean. The housing leading into the airbox is indeed very loose and has so much play in it. Tomorrow I will put a couple of self tapping screws in and let you know how I got on. Thankyou very much.

webcode.. spot on mate.... two self tapping screws on the airbox intake into the pipe and hey presto.... noise gone.

Also actually noticed that the bit where the intake starts ,the part in front of the battery was not clipped in at all and was loose, so just used a speaker clip round the hole, bought the two bits together and screwed into the clip.

thanks a lot once again... saved me a lot of time and money...
