Renault Laguna indicator comes on when key pad removed..

Car: Renault Laguna
Variant: series 2
Model Year: 2004

The indicator comes on when key pad removed even though the indicator stalk is in off position. If I put key pad back in it stops flashing! The only way I have found to stop it without leaving key in is disconnecting battery 'til car is used again. any ideas please..
