Renault Laguna coolant fan permanently on

Car: Renault Laguna
Variant: Laguna III Diesel
Model Year: 2010
I've noticed the twin cooling fans seem to be permanently running. Temp gauge is an the (normal) half way point. Any suggestions to provide a solution or source of the problem will be gratefully received. Thank You, Nigel (Bournemouth)

Any change when switching on / off air con ?

Thank you for that suggestion. It had occurred to me that the fans may be running when A/C is switched on. However I'm fairly certain that switching A/C off doesn't affect whether the fans are running or not. I will try to ascertain whether different ambient temperatures cause the fans to stop but believe my initial observations to still be correct at the time of writing.
