Renault Laguna locks up in reverse

I bought the car today at Auction but oh Dear, when I tried to reverse it went back a few yards the transmission locked up. Can't back up more than a few yards before having to go forward a bit and reverse again! The problem is very definite is there an easy fix??? Or does the car go back to auction?

Are you sure it's not brakes locking up ?

Thanks for the response...I hadn't thought of that. I just assumed it was transmission! It does drive away forward very easily after the lock-up, no indication of binding but you could be right, is that likely?

You can get problems with brake lock up / jamming whilst reversing and then clearing going forward . Parking brake / h/brake can cause this due to sticking cable or linkage etc .

I think I panicked and could see pound signs whirling around? That's a great suggestion, I will get it looked at... I will post an answer on Tuesday, Hope you're right, it will be alot cheaper!!!!!!
