Renault Kangoo van has started making a heavy ticking sound whislt driving

Car: Renault Kangoo
Variant: 1.9 d
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Yesterday My Renault van started making a dreadful ticking sound. When I'm driving the van the ticking gets louder and faster when I speed up, when I put my clutch down the noise stops but only when the clutch is down when I release the clutch it starts again?.(its nothing to do with the tyres or stirring, as it does it when its at a stand still). The noise seems to be coming from around the left side of the engine when your looking at the front of the van? I don't really know how else to describe it, As I press the accelerator the ticking increases, its a loud noise and can be heard clearly from in the van when driving at 60mph? Any advice on what the problem could be would be much appreciated

you say that it goes away when you press the clutch down so the to me would relate to some thing in or near the gear box ie clutch release bearing collapsing but to help pin point where the noise is coming from get hold of a long screw driver start the engine and put the end of the screw driver against one of the headbolts and put your ear on the other end of the screw driver do this around the engine but beware of moving parts and you will be able to get more of a idea of where the noise is coming from
