Renault Kangoo screamer

Car: Renault Kangoo
Variant: Diesel
Model Year: 2002

When I start the van in the morning or after it being idle for a number of hours, it gives off a high pitched scream for about three minutes, then OK. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank You

Sounds as if you've got a belt slipping , probably alternator .

Sir Thank you for taking the time to respond to my problem, I really do appreciate it. The belt seems OK so is the alternator capable of making this noise and if so why would it only do it for the first minute or so. Thank you.

Glad to help .First of all , I could be wrong in my suggested solution , don't let it side track you away from other possible causes .Without actually hearing noise , it's just an educated guess .As for only doing it on start up ,when you start car from cold it takes the biggest drain of power from battery , hence , when running , the alternator works at max. output for a short time to replace this loss / drop . On some cars with ammeter dials you could see the needle drop into minus while cranking engine and then going to plus when running .It then charged high for a short time before settling down to normal output .Hope this helps .
