Renault Kangoo won't start - possibly fuel pump

Car: Renault Kangoo
Variant: 1.7 Diesel Van
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
After getting through an expensive MoT, I went to pick the Kangoo up from the garage & it wouldn't start. It turned over freely for ages, but would not fire up. They put it on their diagostics machine the next day & 'non-committally' said they thought it was the fuel pump. As that's a dealer only part at £804 plus fitting (some say it's a cam belt off job, some say it isn't), on a 'Y' reg Kangoo, it's not worth it. I don't think it is the fuel pump, but I've had so many other possibilities put to me, I'm a bit at a loss as top where to go with this. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Jon
