Renault Clio clanking noise

Car: Renault Clio
Variant: 1.2
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Approaching a roundabout, I heard a clanking noise under the car and the brakes didn't work as good, and the handbrake lifted up very high. It was still running ok, but when I tried to start it later it only went up to 10 revs before cutting out. dont know if both problems related.

The noise could have been the hand brake cable breaking and if it has not been serviced correctly most of the rear brake adjustment was probably on the hand brake cable rather than on the brake shoes themselves(come across it alot as most garages can't be bothered to back off the cable and adjust the shoes) so this woud cause you to have further travel on the brake pedal. as for the engine problem i can't see why it would be related unless you ran over something, post back with more details
