driving yesterday the steering fault light camr on & beeped, then steering went really heavey and seemed as if it locked. when i turned car of and on again it semmed ok other than a bit heavy. I had it into the garage and they say it is fine and they gave it a service and checked the fluid, but a friend said that he thought it steering was done without? hi, i think on this model the power steering pump is on the steering column and is electricaly operated, suggest you check the fuse for it & all connectors

Don't know off any recall on that year / model ,but there was probs with pump .

Renault Clio electric hydraulic power steering (2000 onwards)

Renault Clio (2000 onwards) electric hydraulic power steering going open circuit.

Because it's EHPS , you could check the alternator output / connections as that can also affect steering .
