Renault Clio engine wont switch off even with key removed!

Car: Renault Clio
Variant: 1.4s
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi everyone, hopefully someone could shed some light here!

I returned to the car this evening, Clio 1.4s W reg (2000) and started the car up as usual, the car ran fine! half an hour later tho after my journey I returned to the car again. once in the car I couldnt fail but notice the central dash instruments were flickering like crazy, this is before id even entered the key into the ignition, there was also I clicking noise near the fuze box, like a relay or something. my first guess was to start the car and see what happed, started no problem at all however, the car wont shut off, even when I turn off the ignition and remove the key. furthermore, I tried to drive the car a few yards and the engine just wants to cut off even with my foot to the floor.. it just dies on me!
now I realise we've had alot of bad/damp weather lately so wondering if water could have entered somewhere, however.. i just speculating, any suggestions anyone??

Any help would be greatly received

id start with checking the back of the iggy switch if its not firm enough on the back of the barrel it can cause the iggy to switch on or off.also make sure the battery voltage is above 11v as the main relay could switch on off .then check main battery earth strap is secure.then trace the clicking relay if its in a box of relays swap with another.check around loomb for corroision especially near the battery.
