I recently bought a second hand Renault Clio, the mileage read 56000. After about a week, the digital recorder was not displaying properly, we bought a 2nd hand one, the problem is it was on 67000 miles, 10000 more than the car had actually done. It had been fitted, but I think this is a poor design fault that if this happens, the mileage does not read as accurate. If I had bought a new piece, it would have read 0 miles, which must be illegal to fit?

You can get the mileage altered there are people that provide that service digital mileage correction,But as long as you document the mileage and date you changed the instrument panel I can not see that being illegal. It would only be if you tried to pass the vehicle off when selling it as having a lower mileage than it,s actually done.
