As stated box has to come out.
5-6 hour job by the book.
no way to check the clutch or sleeve for wear/damage in situ.
Actual gear box bearing noise is petty unmistakeable.
and worn synchros crunch on changes,
So I'm back to point 1.
The damage I've seen over the years to clutch parts, release bearings,forks/sleeves would fill a book!
And it's not you but all the previous drivers that come into the frame.
It may or may not be clutch related but if you were calling me now with the described symptoms ~I'd be checking the clutch first.
