Peugeot 407 soft break pedal

Car: Peugeot 407
Variant: 1.9 hdi
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
My 407 break pedal is soft when can is stopped. The pedal can almost go to the floor when stopped in traffic or at lights. however its firm when stopping fast or slowly. Have gad the fluid drained and new fluid in and bleed through the system. Have spoken to peugeot directly and they says its a safety thing on 407 only but have had the car for 3 months and its never done it before.

Odd!
And less than helpful from Peugeot,
If it were in to me I'd start by checking the vacuum pump and brake booster/servo,
And does it have ABS?

I noticed this a couple of years back on a brand new Ford I had when sitting stationary and pressing brake pedal .It almost went to the floor when constant pressure applied but only then .Brakes were perfect otherwise and never really gave it much thought to be honest as there were no leaks or braking problems in the time I had it .Out of curiousty will check if same on my own car which is only now 6 months old and also the wifes car to see if same .

Just checked after being out and exactly the same with brake pedal on new car , but brakes fine .But , with brakes , never take a chance if any doubt , especially if taxying ( going by name , but shouldn't it be spelled " phoenix" ?

Cant see why its less than helpful from Peugeot if its how the brakes are supposed to work. Many diesels have the same characteristic as a pump is used to create a vacuum for the servo. It may be that another component that relies on a vacuum is playing up so you are getting more assistance than usual.
