Americans call “the boot”, the TRUNK. I assume the first answer is from an American (like me).
I believe your problem actually lies with the electronic motor that controls the locks two positions. Sorry, what happens when you try the keyhole in the boot lock too? Under the Peugeot Lion ? Turn your key a 1/4 turn from 3. 00 to 6. 00 position. This opens the boot independently from the remote control keyfob or the driver’s door keyhole.
If you turn your key a 1/4 turn from the 3. 00 position to the 12. 00 position, THIS causes the boot lock to be served by the remote keyfob, or the driver’s door keyhole.
To once again control the boot simultaneously with all doors, locking or unlocking, turn the key from 3. 00 to 12. 00 position.
I HAVE THE 406 Owner’s manual in front of me now. . I will translate from the Dutch:
. . . . . . . . Laying down the backrests (sedan)
. . . . . . The knobs for the unlocking of the backrests are operated from the boot-storage space.
Pull on the strap of the back rest that you want to lay down.
Be sure, when you want to place it upright again, that this clicks firmly in the locking position. . . . .
Well, my friend, it seems you cannot easily lay the seats down without access to the inside of the BOOT! Unless your arm is long enough to reach that little strap at the top outside corner of the back side of the seat.
