Peugeot 406 rattling noise from engine area

I have a loud metallic rattling oise coming from the engine/turbo, I just wondered if anyone could shed some light on it for me?

could possibly crankshaft pulley breaking up.

the noise seems to start at about 1500rpm then stops approaching 3000, could that still be the problem?

also the car doesn't increase speed while the noise is happening.

When you say car doesnt increase speed is it holding back or are you experiencing clutch slip?

Possibly knackered turbo ?
