Peugeot 406 melting sparkplugs

Car: Peugeot 406
Variant: 1.8LX Estate
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I have had this problem happen on two occasions. Each time the car has been loaded and going uphill at motorway speeds.
It lost power and began to misfire.
On both occasions the spark plugs had melted on two of the cylinders. The AA thought it might be the coil pack on the first occasion. Had that changed and the same thing happened again.
Both times it has caused extensive engine damage.
Any ideas why this should happen?

Never came across spark plugs melting before , and only times I have had engines running really , really hot was caused by timing being miles out . Would be very interested in outcome / cause of fault .
