Could be software requires upgrading,or bad connection or faulty unit, would check with dealer if software upgrade available

I have exact sounding same problem, on my 308SW 1.2 puretech manual petrol. The problem happened suddenly and the screen blackout/restart cycles are approx every 2min 20secs. Occasionally when starting its normal, other times the problem cycles. Only possible cause i can think of is a new battery a few weeks ago, but has been fine till now. Not solved yet..

So your issue started with a new battery, Ollie? I was thinking the opposite, that my battery's on the way out. Last service flagged it up as an advisory, but I put it down to fact the car had hardly moved in lockdown. And I had no problems starting. When it first began to happen, I had an 'unreadable disk' message on the screen. But that's now vanished and, like yours, it just goes off and on. Although we had a 220-mile round trip at the weekend and the screen was back on its best behaviour on the return leg.

Had the same issue, just been quoted over £1200 for a new SMEG unit. The dealer said it’s usually fixed with a software update but they can’t do it while the screen is cutting out. Supposedly “a diode inside is broken”, I’ve. Got 66 plate 1.6 blue HDI

Sounds ominous, Dan. Bizarrely, I have now found out that it never seems to happen when the radio's on FM and I am tuned to Radio 2. Which is great for listening to PopMaster uninterrupted if I'm out and about! However, it goes off every few minutes on DAB and AM. I'm booked in at the local Peugeot dealer so will provide an update on Monday. Fingers crossed that it's not a £1200 fix. Thanks very much for getting in touch

Michael, apologies for the virtual pause. Thanks re your FM Radio trick, in a reply to Dan below, it works for me too, the screen seems to stay on normally when in FM mode. Shutdown / restart only occurs when in DAB. Bizzare.

Re was my new battery the cause; no I dont think so. It was all fine for a month after having the new battery (Varta AGM type so top spec). I'm going to have the new battery voltage/charge checked in case the battery is not charging OK for some reason (the alternator was at 14amps so in theory all fine), with my suspicion that if its not 100% charged and the car management system might be reacting by changing parameters (which could be the screen on/off, and an occasional erratic idle) well before any error codes are flashed up.

No worries, Ollie. I found the fix via Peugeot Forum. It needed a system update so I downloaded firmware via the links posted there. Absolutely no issues since then. As well as firmware, I also updated the maps. A lot of really patient, helpful Peugeot drivers there! Saved me 40 odd quid just for garage diagnostics, plus whatever they'd lump on for updates/fix.
