2006 Peugeot 307 intermittent stalling with no warning

Car: Peugeot 307
Year: 2006
Variant: 2.0 Automatic CC
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Have a 307 CC Auto 2.0 that will intermittently stall without warning. No warning lights come up on dash when engine stops, only clue initially is that the revs drop to zero and blower stops operating.

Always fails when coming to a stop at a junction, changing direction from reverse to forward motion and has failed after start-up changing from park to drive. Vehicle starts immediately afterward without issue and will be fine for another undetermined period of time.

Main dealer has looked at car and there have never been any fault codes recorded. Have changed oxy probe, under bonnet fuse box & coolant temp sensor for various reasons but fault persists. There appears to be no pattern other than it will happen in the scenarios detailed above whenever it feels like it.

Fault has been ongoing for about 3 years and is becoming more frequent, but still as unpredictable!

I think i maybe able to help here. i used to own a Manual 206 that had the same problem, as soon a i came to a junction or pressed down on my clutch the RPM dropped to zero! (Very annoying)

As you have an automatic im guessing that you car does it a certain low RPM point.

Anyhow the garage said it could be several different things, in the end it was My battery!?
Basically my was dying and it kept enough charge to start the car but as soon as i touch my clutch the engine just kept stalling. As soon as i got a new battery i never had the same problem again.

I have recently purchased a 307 1.4 petrol with this issue. I have been pulling hairs out over this issue and so have my garage.

The cars stalling problem has now been solved. I'd just like to go through my experiences with the car first.

The car drove perfectly until I came to slow the car down either to go over a hump in the road or to change down gears to turn a corner. At every set of traffic lights and at any junction it would cut out without warning. Car started back up fine, but every journey turned out to just be a nightmare. I'd looked up different forums to self diagnose the problem, and found countless suggestions. None of which was related to my car.

A diagnostic was run which suggested the MAP sensor, this was changed to no avail. Then the control sensor , this was also changed to no avail.

I noticed that the rev counter would instantly drop to zero when reducing my speed causing it to cut out.

Well they got there in the end and it turned to be the speedo sensor not telling the cars brain how fast the car was going. The speed dial on the dash worked fine no problems there, but the cars brain didn't register the speed. I have had this part fitted and now all my problems are solved. The garage I took it to have carried out a splended job and never gave up.

I just hope that this helps anyone who is going through the same experience I did. Good luck with yours

I also have the 2.0 Auto and it looks like the same issue. I have had the fault for a couple of years now. After replacing the throttle potentiometer, throttle body and a few other bits and pieces the fault remained. I've had it in to the main dealer and a Bosch Service Centre, but still no fix. Over many hours of fault finding I found a loose/faulty connection on the wiring loom which connects the brake switch to the gearbox and brake lights. There is a normally open switch built in for the brake lights and a normally closed switch for the gearbox.

When replacing one end of the wiring loom (brake switch plug end) the fault seem to disappear, but it has come back again. I think I’m getting close!

I guess I’m wondering if you ever found the fault and if I am on the right track Pdub?
