Peugeot 307 help me find the humming

Car: Peugeot 307

Guys

Been at this for over 8 months now trying to find the humming coming from my back rear wheel area.

Replaced Brake Discs/Hubs/Bearings in both rears and also swapped the tyres 3 times (with different brands)just to be sure. All had no effect.

I have heard there is a device called a Chassis Ear that lets mechanics attach microphones to various areas of the car and monitor it whilst driving. Problem is that I can find NO-ONE in the Glasgow area that has one

(Here it is by the way, http://www.directsupplyukltd.co.uk/category/steelman-chassis-ears/118/0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0/1)

Its a real shame as this car is a great runner apart from this daft noise. I have spent countless £40's getting garages to look at them for them to state, "Can;t hear it", but it is there and I just want it fixed.

Any advice?

seems like you have rebuilt the back half of the car trying to sort this problem, all i can suggest is to take it to the garage and get one of the mechanics to roadtest the car with you and you can then point out the noise to them

This will probably sound stupid but is there an exhaust mounting/rubber near the rear beam? if so try removing that rubber and see what its like then

With the number of garages who have checked and road tested your car and the amount of money / parts you have fitted to no avail ,I honestly think the only way you will get rid of noise is to change your car .Either that or it's something you will have to live with .

P.s

Just a thought , it's not the fuel pump in the tank ?

I can't let this beat me as its such a simple problem. Latest update is that I packed the suspension springs with foam and it didn;t seam to make that much difference, but then jammed a bit of foam behind the stone shield, and it seemed to dampen the noise. THis reinforces my theory that the problem is in that area.

Effectively the noise I am hearing is the tyre noise vibration being transmitted through something, either the caliper or the shield. The shield itself is pretty corroded compared to its twin on the other side.

Once I have done a few more tests I will take it to the garage and get the guy in the boot, as he will hear it there.
