Peugeot 307 erratic revving in 4th/5th gear

Car: Peugeot 307
Variant: 1.6 HDI S
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I was recently sat on a steep slope and rather than use the foot or hand break I rode the clutch. When I got to the top and had parked, there was a disgusting smell which I believe was the clutch.

I have now noticed when driving at high speeds, usually in 4th and 5th gear, when I put my foot down the car sometimes revs erratically at about 2000 rpm. This doesn't happen all the time, has only done it a few times so far. Have I burnt out the clutch, is it slipping? Please help!

PS, apologies for posting this again - did post it a few days ago but my account got deleted and all posts removed for some reason?! Didn't get to check for replies, thanks

Sounds like clutch slipping .If you sit riding clutch on hills , it's one of the quickest ways to burn out clutch . A quick road test by garage should confirm if on it's last legs.
