Peugeot 307 fuel low warning when tank is full

i have just purchased my 2003 307 1.6 s auto, went to the petrol station as fuel light was on and tanked the car, got back in and the fuel low warning is on the display and the fuel needle is still at the bottom with the orange light warning indicating low fuel, any ideas?

Sounds like fuel tank sender unit gone.An auto electrician will be able to test unit and verify if that is the fault .
