Peugeot 307 needs ox sensor

I have been told it needs one but why?

If it's the knock sensor it sends info to the ECU in relation to the timing and combustion .
Frequent fault symptoms are:
Engine warning light comes on
Error code is stored
Reduced engine power
Increased fuel consumption
