Peugeot 307 engine doesn't start

Car: Peugeot 307
Variant: 2.0 hdi
Model Year: 2002

Timing belt went, replaced by new one, but mechanic said the turns over but doesn't fire up , runs by bypassing a certain system but other then that doesn't start . Mechanic said he put diagnostics machine on & gave him various codes , but doesn't allow him to access the codes or override, now he's telling me he thinks I need a new ecu , could this information be true ? , it was only the timing belt that snapped in the first place, car was running perfectly fine before hand, please could someone shed some expert advice, I don't want to be paying untold money out for something I need not do

The only "expert" advice I van give is to use Peugeot Planet diagbox.
Peugeot's own diagnostics tool.
And your mechanic might very well be using this system.
When the ECU is gone no amount of fancy equipment can talk to it.
So ask if your mechanic is using P.P/
Other diagnostic systems can be less than accurate/reliable.

Has it been timed up Properly. The only other problem could be some of the rockers have been broken when the belt went.only way to find out is remove the cam cover.
