Peugeot 306 poor brakes

Car: Peugeot 306
Model Year: 1996
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Hi,

I've got a Peugeot 306 1.4 xl and i am having a few problems. All of which came with the car.

1 when i am rev the car i can here a screeching noise from the engine. I think it sounds like it may be one of the belts but i don't know what i'm on about to be honest.

2 The breaks feel a little bit slack. I have to press the pedal slightly harder than in other cars to get it to stop. Is this the pads or could it be break fluid.

As i said i'm a novice so any advice would be much apprecited.

Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the site!

I think the noise you are refering to is probably the alternator belt, it normally means it needs replacing if it keeps up. If your brakes dont feel very powerful then i think you should get them checked straight away as they are the most important part on any car. Both jobs wont be a lot of money and will make driving your car much nicer.

Hi thanks for the advice.

Do you know how much it would ruughly be. It's my first car so i'm worried about paying too much.

Thanks

I think an alternator belt is probably around £20-£30 fitted maybe. Get a brake check should be free if you go to Kwik fit and they will be able to tell you how much it will be to get fixed.
