Peugeot 306 how tight does the throttle cable have to be?

Car: Peugeot 306
Variant: 2.0 hdi
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
hi, i have my engine management light on, throttle position sensor was the fault, i think the problem might be with the throttle cabe next to teh senor, it seems a bit loose, and it is being held by a freeking paperclip, should i put the clip lower to tighten the cable? could that be the problem? how tight does that cable have to be? Thanks

Could be a problem, start the engine and get someone to put the pedal to the floor. Push the throttle in the engine and as it might be too slack, it will rev higher then meet the stop. It needs to be adjusted so that when the pedal is on the floor, the throttle is as wide as it can be.

no no no dont have the cable so there is no slack in the cable the slack is there for a reason and the throttle has its own stop any way on full throttle and on closed throttle so there nedds to be a little slack in the cable and the paper style clip is the right clip for peugeots

ah, so i guess i should just leave that alone then, anyone know what is the part number for the throttle position sensor for the 306 hdi? i looked all over my sensor and its not there, could be a cheap replacement, i dont want to spend a lot of money on this so i found this (which looks like it is the same sensor) but will it fit? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220220845876&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012

the part number on that is: 0 280 122 001, is it the same on the 306? Thanks

The clip does look like an over sized paper clip, but only adjust it with the engine off if you suspect the cable to have been tampered with by havining someone hold the throttle pedal down and then adjust it, but never do that with any vehicle with the engine running as one of the posters suggested, also with my previous experience with these cars i would suggest that the sensor will be faulty, it is quite common.
