Peugeot 306 auto will not chnage up

Hi

My wife's Peugeot 306 XT Auto periodically but not always seems to get stuck in 3rd gear and will not change up to top. It seems to happen randomly and when it happens it stays that way until you stop the car, turn off ignition then restart. Before it is reset (by stopping and turning off) even if you go down to first gear it still will not go beyond 3rd gear. This is cumbersome, just wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this. We have had all oils changed without noticeable effect. Car is generally in good nick.

£rd gear is limp home mode, Poss oil level fault or electrics for box

All oil etc OK, but I don't have expertise in checkinh electrics, may have to leave it to service centre.
