I'm looking to swoop my Vauxhall Vectra TDi for a Peugeot 208 estate. Took it for a test drive earlier but found the clutch quite heavy; I was told that the clutch has been like this for the 3 years the previous owner has had it. Does this mean the clutch is on thwe way out, or just that it is heavy anyway? Cheers

It wouldn`t get heavier or lighter if it was on the way out. If it`s smooth in operation with no juddering as you pull away you should be fine. Just check to see at what point it starts to `bite`. You don`t want the bite point at the very top or bottom.

Cheers, the biting point was ok. Thanks for your advice. The car in itself runs quite smoothly with no juddering when initiating clutch - definitely better than my current car!

If it doesn't feel right it probably isnt, a heavy clutch is a sign that the clutch cover could be failing,

hydraulics or pressure plate. all peugoet clutches should have light ones
