Not really fair - the gearbox on the 207 is the Porsche Tiptronic gearbox, and it throws a "Gearbox error" warning on the display, and then puts the car into 3rd gear (this apparently is to protect the gearbox) and the gear selector indicator on the main dashboard flashed both the snow and sport symbols (yes - my car does this!).

I've been able to overcome the problem (ok - rephrase it - manage the problem) by ensuring that I don't use too much power on the car when it's cold, and allow the gearbox to change into 4th, before putting the climate control, and ensuring that the coolant level is topped up.

Bad news on this I'm afraid - it sounds like the solenoids in the gearbox are at fault. I had the same issue with my car, and having had the solenoids, transmisson fluid a software update, this has now been sorted. I was advised that had I left this problem much longer, then I would have had major problems with the car jumping out of gear, meaning that it would have been almost undriveable, and I would need a new / recon gearbox.
