Peugeot 206 wont let me rev past 20000revs the engine will just kangaroo and splutter

i have a 206sw and my problem is that sometimes i start my car and it wont let me rev past 20000revs the engine will just kangaroo and splutter and will not go any higher i can have my foot to the floor and still only 20000 revs or below which results in me doing around 5 mile per hour on a bad day then i will stop leave my car till lunch and it will be as if nothing was wrong i looked at my car after as this happened bad this morning and just below the manifold the exhaust was glowing red the engine diagnostics light is on and my clock keep resetting itself after the problem occurs any help would be great

Might be worthwhile checking your timing belt in case it's jumped .But other possible causes .Could check basics like plugs also but probably best to get it scanned .May even be cat convertor .

as whittinghame says make sure the exhaust isnt blocked sometimes the catalyst can twist inside the box causing it to not let the exhaust gases out. if you disconnect the ehaust just before the catalytic converter you should be able to see inside
