Peugeot 206 fan noise

Car: Peugeot 206
Variant: 1.1 Lx
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
My car runs perfectly sound round town, and on long journeys, but when in either traffic or stop start traffic, as normal the car starts to heat up, as it gets to temp for the fan to kick in, the fan works fine, but theres a huge racket and knocking noise that comes from there, it cools the engine down fine, but the noise is just an embarrassment. we've had a close look when the noise starts and doesn't look like there is anything catching, does anyone have any ideas.

so there is nothing around the cooling fan area then have the catalyst checked out as this could be early signs of the cat breaking down hope this helps
