Peugeot 206 weird gear stick position

Car: Peugeot 206
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi. I've just bought an old motor(pug 206 1.4 glx on v plate) to teach my son to drive in, however it has a couple of problems I'm struggling to put right, and need some help..
first problem.... the gear stick sits way over to the left, selecting first gear is dificult and presses against the side of the center console...have changed the linkages, the arm with the white nylon ball but its still the same... ideas?. could it be the shift mechanism at the bottom of the gear stick?
next. the cars fan wont come on...have put in another fan which is tested and working before fitting, put in new relays.(think I've poss got the wrong ones tho.. both have 5 points) (the top female clip(black boxy thing has 5 points, however upon closer inspection I've just noticed only four wires going in the bottom one)(have fitted 5 point relay) the 300w fan 40 amp fuse keeps blowing suggesting wiring, relay problems but I dunno where to start... ideas on this?
and finally the central locking is bouncing, haven't even looked at this yet, but will strip and clean all mechanisms before replacing any parts.....
any ideas would def be appreciated... thanks in advance.. Bobby

You would have to sort out the relays i.e correct and working ones fitted . The electric fan should have a thermal switch / transmitter to trigger the fan , sometimes on rad. This shows you on a 205 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091020123954AAhyMlm

With the gear problem , you will have to check linkage from stick to box . If not that the other possibility , gearbox may have been changed at one time .

hey, thought I'd update this post. weird gear stick position was down to a problem with the gear box, I got a replacement from the scrappy from an identical car, seems the gearbox on my car was replaced with a saxo gearbox before I bought it. it is the same box but the arm with small ball joints which the linkages attach to are different,it was slightly out of position also which was pulling the gear stick over.
the fan problem was indeed the relays, got the proper ones from peugeot and it was prob fixed.and finally the central locking, the locking motor on the nearside front door was knackered, a replacement again from the scrappy fixed the system, but after a few weeks the remote system failed. I reset the keys which worked a couple of times but doesn't now, think the BSI is the prob now.I can live with that though as long as the car locks..
If your wondering why I bought this car with all these faults.. I keep asking myself the same question. I did get it very cheap, and have learnt loads from all the work I've done on it. my advice. get a workshop manual and get your hands dirty.pulling the car to bits is great therapy.now there is nothing I would not attempt to fix on this car.and use forums like this one. and thanks whittingehame your post was spot on.
