Peugeot 206 air 'rushing' noise

Car: Peugeot 206
Variant: 2.0 deisel
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When I accelerate I can hear what sounds like the heating fan increasing in speed with the engine.
If I put the fan on and try this, then I can hear this air 'rushing' sound above the fan (so it appears to be something seperate to the fan).

Really hard to say without hearing noise ,but if it increases with engine ,could check all belts , pulleys and alternator and any pipes / hoses .

Just to add clarity. THe noise appears to come from within the dashboard. It does not happen when the car is revved when put of gear.

Thanks for any help.

does car have a/c? if so it is probably low on gas

If it is definately from the dash/footwell area it could be that the air cond has lost some gas. This can make a strange whooshing noise. If the car is a 2.0 HDI, i suspect that it is more likely to be either a split turbo pipe or the short, rubber turbo outlet pipe being forced away from the turbo, under boost pressure. Strangely, this sometimes doesnt happen when stationary and out of gear as the engine is free to rev up and has no load.
