Why was ABS pump changed ?
hi he said diognostic was reporting no comunication with e c u,but i had the pump replaced last year.i think its a bad earth,or the e c u but he says all the codes are good .and it will cost 150 to reprogram a second hand e c u.im heart broken as it was my late fathers car.just had a new axle fitted, clutch and water pump.seems strange after all this wet weather and then freezing it gets an electrical fault, dont want to scrap her((

You could check the various fuses that are relevant to this fault . Also there should be an earth / ground wire going from the engine or gearbox to the body that needs checking as it can play havoc with electrics .

so much stress trying to save her,for my late dad if you know what i mean((

Understandable and very commendable your trying to save the car , but be careful it doesn't become a money pit for you .If all your work does not solve the faults , might be worthwhile as a last resort trying a different mechanic ? That car also suffers from instrument cluster faults , couple of examples

ok thanks,no i know what your saying, but its better the devil you know, everything has been done to the car to give it another 5 years of motoring ,ie,new rear axle.im getting alot of info from these forums which i didnt know about.the mechanic just does the diognostic and gives me funny looks,so i will proberly try another guy for an hours work just to see if he cant solve it and see if i can do the rest myself, anyway thanks so much,im also going to try byepassing the earth through a jump lead ,ive already tried the reset the e c u by disconecting and draining the power with a jump lead.take care.i will let you know how i get on.im sure its damp ,i even read that the alternator can overcharge and cause probs, bloody french car love em or hate em)))

An over charging alternator will fry the car battery and you normally smell acrid fumes and get other symptoms also. I have often used a battery lead for testing as a temp earth with good results , make sure good clean connections .Really hope you get it fixed , best wishes .
