Needs stripping down to see what the fault is , this explains possible cause
" I had the same on prob my 206 V reg.
basicaly you need to take out the roof lining so that you can gain access
to the motor which is hiden under the light switch.
you could force the lining down just at the front but you might rip it.
You will need about 3 diffrent star bits to do this most of the screws are
loose anyway as peugeot workers are very weak or lazy.
1 strip out the light unit
2 remove the 4 handles from the roof lining
3 remove the sunvisors.tiny star drive screws
4 remove plastic trim in boot area which also clamps the roof lining.
5 pull the seatbelt plastic away from the side you do not need to remove
it fully.
once you have done this you can pull back the rubber seals and the lining
will come loose and if you angle it right it will come out of the drivers
side ok.
once all this is out you can then see the motor and screw rods that drive
the roof. there are 3 star bits that hold the motor in place one is hiden
behind the palstic handle.
it took me 3 hours as i did not know what i was doing and as long as you
take it easy and make sure you dont damage the lining then it's very
straight foward.
whilst you have the star bits out you might like to go round and chheck
all the other screws in the car as you will fing plenty loose one. "
