Peugeot 206 radiator fan blades completely broken off

Car: Peugeot 206
Variant: 1.4 petrol manual
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hello people, I was driving along the motorway the other day when my Radiator fan blades completely broke off whilst I was driving. I dont know what caused it but i'll give some recent history. Two weeks ago I had the alternator changed then I started to notice some problems, the car rumbles when I do 50mph-55mph then stops rumbling when speeds are either below or higher. And it rumbles abit when I go up hill. Anyway I was driving along the motorway doing 60mph and I went to overtake someone so I picked up speed then I felt a thud and looked in my rear view mirror and I saw debris I thought i ran over something or other. But I pulled over to check anyway and noticed I had no coolant fan blades what so ever and the thing what looks like the radiator but isnt also had a circular looking hole. Well not hole but damage that was done that was circular in nature. Does anyone know what could have happened?

I'm a bit confused.

The rumble you mentioned is not alternator or cooling fan related. Its either wheel balancing or wheel bearings.( but when bearings usually grumble at any speed)
A worn driveshaft centre bearing will make these noises and could give you these issues at the speed you mentioned also when under load.

The cooling fan should be connected to the radiator. And I can't see any work on the alternator could affect it.

I would say it has just failed and you need a new fan.

Does any of this help. As I'm a bit confused with some of your post

somebody may have bumped into your car without you realise and damged it enough to push the fan cowling into the condenser. if the fan was then touching it it would eventually break.

a wheel arch liner may also have been damged and it was that make the noise i.e rubbing against the wheel as you were going along.

The noise is only at a certain speed, not at all speeds which confuses me a little.

Sounds like a bearing tbh. Either wheel or drive shaft centre bearing.

A wheel bearing wouldn't cause a fan to break!

Chill!

I'm sure these issues are not related I was quoting on the wheel noise.
I'm really not that stupid!!
