Peugeot 205 engine cuts out and steering lock comes on

Car: Peugeot 205
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The car is a 206 actually but there wasn't a drop down selection for that one. Basically when stationary at traffic lights, junctions etc you have to keep the revs up otherwise it cuts out. On top of that today this happened and the steering lock came on. You can be driving along and the engine just cuts out and the steering lock comes on. After a few minutes things back to normal again. I understand this has been reported in many peugots.

Dont honestly know of any cars that steering lock comes on if engine cuts out .Would be illegal for a car to be designed that way because of the danger it would cause . All steering locks should not work until key is removed . Unless there is something I dont know about this ?

do you mean the steering becomes heavy because the power steering pump stops working as engine has cut out. you may have a fault with stepper motor but there may also be a software issue or even a bad earth at gearbox

Agree with " paulieone " .If engine cuts out you wont have any power steering , maybe that's what you are experiencing ?

Sounds like a wiring fault.the harness is very exposed on these cars the way it runs down under the front its prone to corrosion.
