Peugeot 106 engine problems (not starting, ratteling, cutting out, not turning off)

Car: Peugeot 106
Variant: 1.5 Diesel XND
Model Year: 1998
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
#1 For over 1 month my 106's engine has been rattling/vibrating a lot (mainly when accelerating, or driving at high revs; if I were to drive at 25mph in 4th gear it would be silent until the speed picks up, then the loud noise starts again)

#2 It now takes 6-7 tries to start the engine at any point in the day (even if it’s been running for 1hr, takes about 3 tries to start). I have checked the battery and it is full and charging properly when running.

#3 1 out of 5 times the engine is cutting out when approaching lights/roundabouts etc (then struggling to start again as #2) This may be an 'idle air control valve'

#4 2 out of 3 times the engine will not cut out when I turn the ignition off and remove the key (having to stall the engine to stop it)

Any advice will be appreciate as to how I can resolve any of these issues (cost effectively if possible)

Thanks

i wont be able to help you with the ratteling without hearing it, however the engine cutting out, not being able to start and not turning off all point to the fuel cut off solinoid (FCOS. check the electrical connection for security and carry out a continuity test on the cable. if these both prove to be good then you require a new FCOS.
