When I start the car first thing in the morning when the weather is cold the engine starts but builds revs to approx 2-3000 revs if I put the car in gear and move the revs drop to 900-1000. It only happens on the intial start up the rest of the day on starting its fine ,the performance of the car is great.Any idea's

Those rev,s seem a bit high even for pump cold start device I wonder if something is sticking they are common for ball bearing style pressure sensor sticking in the fuel rail but that may not be your concern,firstly check for fault codes,

Just my friends x trail was suffering from similar issues and changing that part and a sensor on the pump fixed it.
