Nissan Serena problems starting the car, has a new battery also loss of water

The car does not start easily any more, it has a new battery but still takes a long time to start. When it does start there is a lot of smoke expelled from the exhaust. Once started starts 1st time for the rest of the day (but no smoke). We also are losing water but not visibly - there are no visible drips or leaks.
