Nissan Micra enging reving

Car: Nissan Micra
Variant: 1.2 S
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When the car is stationary engine revs go uo to 2000rpm and the car trys to surge forward, revs OK when car driving along the road. Been to Nissan who say the timing belt has stretched and it was a common problem on 2003/2005 Micras. As they have to take the engine out to repair fault, Nissan say it will cost £15,000 to £18, ooo to repair. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a cheaper siolution?

Is it not the timing chain that's stretched ? Was a known and common fault on that car . Think you got your prices wrong !! " Nissan say it will cost £15,000 to £18, ooo "
