Nissan Micra ecu coding problem

My daughters car had a power steering motor failure the steering colum was stripped and the motor replaced ,the car now wont start and Nissan say the ECU cant be recoded and a new one is £1800 this seems crazy and surely this must be fixably can anyone help please

If it was o.k prior to them fitting power steering motor / steering column stripped , and fault caused by them , I would get on to Nissan UK customer services .If still not getting satisfaction , you could also get an independant examination and report of work carried out by the likes of AA .
